NEWARK, Del. – For the first time since the 2015 season, the Wilmington University men's soccer team earned three All-Americans in one season, but the first time in program history to have more than one named to the United Soccer Coaches All-American in one season, which was announced at the NCAA Division II pre-championships banquet Wednesday night.
On the lists of names included, junior Lorne Bickley earned Second Team All-America, along with teammates Joe Bell and Gabriel Prgomet, who were named to Third Team All-America.
All three athletes earned the nod as All-America for their first time throughout their careers. Together, they helped the men conclude a record breaking season, finishing 17-3-1 overall, with a trip to the NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Tournament.
Bickley adds to his award-winning season, earning Second Team out of four forwards in all of NCAA Division II. Throughout 21 games played, he topped NCAA Division II with the most goals (26), goals per game (1.24), points (54), and points per game (2.57). The junior from St. Helier, Jersey earned Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-America earlier this month, while earning several All-Region nods, as well. Bickley had a season-high four goals against Felician on September 21 to go along with eight points. He also scored at least two goals throughout eight games, finishing with a .658 shot on goal percentage.
Senior Joe Bell is rounding out his collegiate career with another award, earning Third Team All-America. The defenseman from Epsom, England was an important part of the Wildcats back line this season. Bell finished with eight goals, two assists and 18 points this year, on only 12 shots on goal. He scored twice in the Wildcats 9-0 win over Chestnut Hill on October 22, securing four points on two shots. The senior also was awarded the Academic All-America Third Team nomination, along with Bickley, while earning D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region votes.
Gabriel Progmet notched Third Team All-America in his first season in a Wildcat uniform. The sophomore from Melbourne, Australia finished the year out allowing 23 goals, for a 1.09 goals against average, which was second in the CACC. He also finished with 60 saves for a .723 save percentage. Throughout 21 games played in the net, he made eight shutouts in 1901:14 minutes played. In the Wildcats NCAA Division II Super Region 1 contest against Franklin Pierce, Prgomet made a season-high eight saves in the net.
