NEWARK, Del. - - The 2021 season continues for the Wilmington University men's soccer team, as it earned the No. 3 seed, a First Round bye, and a home game in the NCAA Division II Tournament. They will play No. 6 seed Davis & Elkins in the Second Round on Saturday at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Wildcats (16-3-1) lost in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Semifinals on Friday, but were confident that their early season success would allow them to earn one of the five Super-Region 1 at-large bids. They remained as the No. 3 seed, earning a home game in the Second Round.
Davis & Elkins (16-1-2) lost its first game of the season on Sunday in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Championship to No. 2 seed Charleston. The Senators were the MEC Regular Season Champions.
Saturday will be the sixth NCAA Regional Tournament appearance for the Wildcats in its NCAA era. They have advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in all previous five tournament. It is the third straight NCAA Tournament for the Wildcats, also competing in the 2018 and 2019 Regional Championships.
It will be the third time in school history that Wilmington will host an NCAA Regional Tournament. Golf hosted the 2008 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional and softball hosted the 2019 NCAA Division II East 2 Regional Tournament.
Franklin Pierce earned the Super-Region 1 top seed while MEC counterpart Charleston earned the No. 2 seed. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament Champion Millersville captured the No. 4 seed to round out the four schools that will host the first and second rounds.
Saturday's Second Round action between the Wildcats and Senators will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
