Shawn Genus and Carson Talboys Named CoSIDA Academic Men’s Soccer All-Americans

NEWARK, Del. - - For their combined dominance on the field and in the classroom, Wilmington University men's soccer's Shawn Genus and Carson Talboys were named to the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Teams, as voted on by the division's sports information directors.

Just named a First Team All-American for his performance solely on the field, Shawn Genus (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) can add to his trophy case as he was named a First Team Academic All-America as well. Graduate student Carson Talboys (Huntersville, N.C.) was voted a Third Team Academic All-American as well for his efforts on both the field and classroom this year.

Genus led the East Region and finished second in the country with 21 goals and 48 points. Since of his goals went as game-winners and he converted 4-of-5 from the penalty spot this season. He is also carrying a 3.63 cumulative grade point average while studying for his Sports Management degree.

Talboys started all 21 games at centerback for the Wildcats and helped led the Wildcats to holding opponents to just 0.98 goals per game. He also got in on the offensive side of the ball, scoring six goals and adding two assists for 14 points. In the classroom, Talboys is pursuing his master's degree at Wilmington after graduating from Catawba with an accounting degree with a 3.52 grade point average. He currently has a 3.84 graduate grade point average in studying for his MS in Accounting.

Genus and Talboys are the eighth and ninth Wilmington student-athletes to earn the distinction of Academic All-American and the sixth and seventh men's soccer student-athlete overall. It is the 11th and 12th time overall a Wildcat has earned Academic All-American, with two of the recipients earning the award multiple seasons.
