ALTOONA, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team is 7-2 and in fourth place going into Bracket play at the 2022 Red Flash Invitational hosted by St. Francis (Pa.).
The Wildcats went 3-1 in Traditional matches on Friday and then 4-1 in Baker matches on Saturday, putting down a total of 8,750 pins in the two days to sit in fourth place.
The fourth-place seeding means the Wildcats will vie for the team championship on Sunday with three Baker Bracket matches. The Wildcats will first face Walsh University and three wins would give the Wildcats the championship.
In the Traditional matches on Friday, the Wildcats defeated D'Youville before going into a bye round. The Wildcats fell to Morgan State but then came back with their best match of the day, defeating Bloomfield, 1,012-864. Friday finished with another win, defeating Pitt-Bradford, 883-822.
Malia Stout paced the Wildcats on Friday, finishing in sixth place overall with a five-match total of 982 (196.40 average). She finished the day with her best match of the afternoon, bowling a 213 against Pitt-Bradford. She also started the tournament well, bowling a 212 against D'Youville. She also bowled a 204 in the win over Bloomfield, finishing with her 196.40 average.
CC Riojas finished in ninth overall, bowling a 954 for a 190.80 average. She had a team-best 254 in the win over Bloomfield, the second-best individual match of the day.
Desiree Dent finished 13th with a 906 total, putting down 181.20 pins on average. She had a day's best 198 against D'Youville and a 197 against Morgan State.
KC Miller finished 14th overall with a 905 total, averaging 181.00 per match. She had a 217 in the bye round.
Sydney Jones rounded out the Wildcats with a 33rd place finish, totaling a five-match score of 823 (164.60 average). She bowled a 194 against Bloomfield.
On Saturday, the Wildcats won their first four matches, defeating Wagner, Pitt-Greensburg, Mount Aloysius, and PSU Altoona. The Wildcats didn't end how they wanted with a loss to Walsh, but are still in striking position heading into Sunday.
The Wildcats best Baker match of the day was the win over Wagner to start the day, defeating the Division I opponent, 875-747.
Morgan State's La'Monique Berrios earned medalist honors with a five-match total of 1,1000 (220 average). She bowled a 216 or greater in four of her five matches. Her teammate Cheyenne Washington was second with a total of 1,020 (204 average) while Pitt-Bradford's Brookelyn Garvey was third with a 1,018 total (203.60 average).
Morgan State heads into Bracket play in first with a total pinfall of 9,485. Host St. Francis (Pa.) is second with a total of 9,068 while Walsh is in third with a total of 8,849.
