NEWARK, Del. - - Bloomsburg took advantage of a 27-8 difference in draw controls, leading to a 24-9 nonconference victory over the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team on Friday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Despite a 20-3 disadvantage on draws in the first half, the Wildcats (1-3) kept the match within striking distance against the Huskies (3-1) by scoring on seven of their 11 shots in the first half. But the Huskies started to pull away last in the first half, going on a 5-1 scoring run to end the half, then a 6-0 run to start the second.

Bloomsburg opened the game by scoring five of the first six goals, and jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Brooke Siebert got on the board to make it a 7-3 game with 21:24 left in the half, but Bloomsburg again scored two-straight to open the lead back up to 9-3. Taylor Lambeth scored with 16:40 to play and then the Wildcats' Lashay Ross scored back-to-back goals to close the game to 10-6 with 12:56 showing on the clock.

But, after a Bloomsburg timeout, the Huskies rattled off four-straight before Maddie Day scored with two minutes left, bringing the score to 14-7. The Huskies ended the half with the final goal, going into the break leading 15-7.

The Huskies put the game away to start the second half, however, scoring the first six goals of the second stanza. Lashay Ross and Taylor Lambeth scored back-to-back goals for the Wildcats, but it was too little too late as the Huskies answered with the final three goals.

Lashay Ross led the Wildcats with four goals and two assists for six points, adding three draws and two caused turnovers as well. Maddie Day and Taylor Lambeth each scored two goals while Brooke Siebert led the way with six ground balls, five caused turnovers, and four draws. Casey Johnson also had two caused turnovers in the contest.

The Wildcats head south for their next two games, as they travel to nationally ranked Rollins on Wednesday night. They will play under the lights, with the opening draw set for 7:30 p.m.
