Five Players with Double Digit Digs Pace Wilmington Volleyball, 3-0, Past Post

Out digging their opponent by 16, the Wilmington University used its defense to get past Post, 3-1, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference cross divisional action at the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Set scores for the match were 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, and 25-19.

The Wildcats' (15-12, 11-3 CACC) Shelby Henderson picked up 28 digs to lead the back line, as the diggers and blockers forced Post's (14-10, 9-5 CACC) hitting into a .093 attack percentage for the afternoon.

A string of five straight points in the middle of the first set gave the Wildcats a 20-11 lead before the Eagles started to chip away. The Eagles closed to within 22-18, but the Wildcats won three of the next five points to take the first set, 25-20, on a kill from Kasey Couch.

Post jumped out to a 8-2 lead in the second set before the Wildcats battled back to tied the game at 10-10. Again tied at 15-15, the Eagles scored five of the next six points to take control of the game and back-to-back points to close out the set, 25-18.

The third set was back and forth throughout, being tied as late at 14-14, and with Post holding a 20-18 late lead. Three straight points for the Wildcats gave the home team the lead before the Eagles tied it up once more at 22-22. But an Eagle service error sparked a string of three straight points as Allison Briley connected on a kill and then a solo block to finish the set, 25-22.

Wilmington again jumped out to a sizeable lead in the fourth set before the Eagles battled back to take a brief lead at 11-10. A block by Eile Harris and Kaitlin DiGiacinto started three consecutive points and a 13-11 lead. Still leading 20-19, the Wildcats closed out the set and the match with five straight points, using the service game of DiGiacinto and a kill by Henderson to claim the victory.

Erin Bistany led the offense with 14 kills and a .267 attack percentage while Briley added 13 kills and 12 digs for the double-double.

Alex Siolos collected her 10th triple-double of the season, picking up 10 kills with only three errors to hit .212 for the match, adding 11 assists and 11 digs for the feat.

Couch added another double-double for the Wildcats with 27 assists and 13 digs. Bistany helped the defense with four more block assists while Angele Collins added three block assists. Harris, DiGiacinto, and Briley each added one solo block.

The Wildcats will take their four match winning streak to Chestnut Hill on Tuesday for their next match. The Wildcats swept the Griffins to start off the CACC schedule on September 10. Tuesday night's match is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Philadelphia.
