Golf Wraps Up Fall Schedule with Rough Conditions at Vulcan Invitational

GREENSBURG, Pa. - - The weather conditions changed for the second round at Totteridge Golf Course, and the scores reflected that for the Wilmington University golf team, as they posted rounds of 298-338 for a 636 (+60) and finished 10th overall at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California (Pa.).

The first round of the tournament could not be completed on Sunday due to darkness, but the Wildcats took advantage of fair conditions throughout the round, sitting in third overall with a 298 (+10).

But the second round proved to be tougher with gusty winds and 70 percent chance of rains all day in Greensburg, Pa. The Wildcats finished round two with a 338 (+50) to finish 10th overall with a 636 (+60) for the tournament.

Senior Ryan Rucinski was a shot off the lead and in a tie for second after with a 70 (-2) after the opening round. He finished in a tie for 18th overall however, shooting an 85 in the second round to finishing with a 155 (+11).

Junior Arvy Shongwe was in sixth after the first round with a 74 (+2) in the opening 18-holes, but fell to a tie for 22nd overall with an 82 on Monday. He posted a score of 156 (+12) for the tournament.

Junior Braden McKay finished in a tie for 33rd overall, posting rounds of 78-80 for a 158 (+14). Classmate Jack Dixon was in 17th after a first round 76 but ended the tournament in a tie for 61st overall with rounds of 76-91 for a 167 (+23).

Matthew Kettleson posted an 81 in the first round but was disqualified from the second round.

Charleston won the tournament with steady rounds of 304-304 for a 608 (+32), defeating St. Thomas Aquinas with a fifth-man tiebreaker score. St. Thomas Aquinas finished its 608 with rounds of 297-311.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Jake Yarmolowitz earned medalist honors for the tournament with rounds of 69-76 for a 145 (+1). Davis & Elkins' Toby Gibbons finished second with rounds of 74-75 for a 149 (+5).

The Wildcats completed their fall schedule on Monday and will return to action when the weather turns with their spring season.
