LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University Wildcats earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road victory in wet and rainy conditions over Georgian Court, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
In the first half of action, the Wildcats took some time to settle into the match on the offensive side. The Wildcats recorded their first shot in the game in the 26th minute by Marcus Hedemann. Max Norden had the ball on the left side of the 18-yard box in the offensive third. Norden crossed the ball with his left foot, and Tajhay Williams headed the ball down. Hedemann got his right foot on the ball for a shot, but it was deflected enough by the Georgian Court's goalkeeper.
Two minutes later, Hedemann was on the end of another excellent chance for the Wildcats. Hedemann had a significant jump on an attempted pass back to the Georgian Court's keeper. Hedemann shot the first time from his right foot, but it was met by a save and deflected out for a corner.
In the 32nd minute, the Wildcats broke through off a goal from Yohan Kim. Marius Skattum-Dahl intercepted a failed clearance by Lion's backline inside the 18-yard box. Skattum-Dahl quickly finds Kim to his right, and Kim fires a ball into a lot of traffic into the box, but it finds the left side of the net.
The Wildcats continued the pressure coming out for the second half, as they added their second goal of the game in two minutes. First, the Wildcats earned a corner on the right side. Then, Max Norden set up to take the corner with an in-swing left-footed cross. The Georgian Court's keeper initially punched the ball out, but the ball fell right to an unmarked Malthe Hannesbo, who struck the ball the first time into the back of the net.
Richard Thompson, who has been on the end of many assists this year, finds his first goal of the season in the 68th minute. Deshawn Bernard had the ball around midfield and connected with Thompson. Thompson eventually found Marius Skattum-Dahl at the top of the 18-yard box. Skattum-Dahl then laid the ball off back to Thompson on the left side, then Thompson found the bottom right corner to put the Wildcats up 3-0.
The Lions added a goal in the 79th minute from a shot at about 25 yards. The shot found the bottom left corner of the net to make the score 3-1.
The Wildcats outshot the Lions 21-12. They played with a man-up for the last 17 minutes from a double-yellow by Georgian. The Wildcats earned ten corners, and Bas Markus made two saves in net.
The Wildcats will be back on the road this Saturday, October 8, at 6:00 PM as they will travel to the University of Bridgeport to play in the CACC Conference matchup.
