Sytieia Brown Named CACC Women’s Field Rookie of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Sytieia Brown opened the 2025 Wilmington University outdoor track and field season strong, being named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Field Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Sytieia Brown (Baltimore, Md./Elkton) dominated the throwing events over the past two weekends to open the outdoor season. She scored all five of the Wildcats points at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge to start the season and the scored 23 of the team's 45 points at the Purple & Gold Open this past weekend.

In Myrtle Beach, Brown finished fourth out of 62 throwers in the shot put, launching an outdoor school record of 12.46 meters to pick up five points. Only two NCAA Division I and a NCAA Division II senior had a better distance than Brown in Myrtle Beach.

At the Purple & Gold Open hosted by West Chester, Brown scored 23 of the team's 45 points, helping the Wildcats to a fourth-place team finish. Brown won the Discus event with a distance of 37.92 meters, topping a field of 33 throwers. She placed second overall in the hammer throw with a day's best 41.09 meters and also placed fourth overall in the shot put with a distance of 11.55 meters.

Tiffany Banning was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after finishing fourth in the 1500-meter race at the Purple * Gold and 10th overall in the 5000-meter event at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge.

On the men's side, Dan Wyshinski was named to the weekly Honor Roll after winning the 1500-meter event at the Purple & Gold Open and 15th overall in the 5000-meter event at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge.

The Wildcats are back in action this weekend as they head up the road to the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.
