Reggie Hopkins was named the second head coach in program history ahead of the 2025 spring season.

Reggie Hopkins has been elevated from assistant coach, a position he has held since prior to the 2022 season. He is the second head coach in the program’s history, which began with the 2019 spring season.

“We are excited to welcome Reggie to the Wilmington coaching roster as the head men’s and women’s track and field coach”, Director of Athletics Dr. Stefanie Whitby said. “Having worked as an assistant coach with the program for the past three years, he has been a significant contributor to the team’s success. Coach Hopkins understands the WU culture and is a Delaware native. I believe these components will play into his ability to continue to grow the program.”

Hopkins becomes the head coach with extensive knowledge of the current team and program, but also extensive knowledge of the First State and surrounding areas. He was on the coaching staff during the 2023 season in which the men’s track and field team won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship. He was also a decorated Delaware high school athlete at Howard and a decorated collegiate student-athlete at nearby Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.

While at Howard in downtown Wilmington, Hopkins was named the Delaware Gatorade Player of the Year in 2003, earning four individual outdoor track and field state titles, two Meet of Champions wins, and the 2003 outdoor track and field MVP. He was a two-time long jump and 100-meter State Champion during his career.

He moved on to compete for the Lions at Lincoln (Pa.), leading to a career in which he was a two-time NCAA Division III National Champion and a three-time NCAA Division II All-American in the long jump.

Hopkins has earned his USATF Level 1 Certificate and is also a USTFCCCA Speed Specialist and is USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning Certified.

Hopkins begins his first season as head coach with competitions starting in March 2025.
