
GLEN ALLEN, Va. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team opened the Virginia Union Invitational on Friday afternoon, bowling five Baker Matches to sit in 10th place after the first of a three day tournament at the Bowl American Short Pump.
The Wildcats went 3-2 in match play, finishing 10th overall in total pin fall, knocking down 4,075 pins in the five matches for an 815-match average.
The Wildcats started the afternoon with back-to-back wins, defeating host Virginia Union, 750-672, and NCAA Division I foe Morgan State, 781-721. Wilmington dropped its first match of the day to East Coast Conference opponent Felician, 845-776, but backed it up with their best match of the day, defeating Virginia State, 907-654. The afternoon finished with a lost to NCAA Division I opponent Howard, 934-861.
Fairleigh Dickinson leads the Virginia Union Invitational by going 5-0 on Friday and totaling a 4,694 pin fall. They head into Saturday with a 938.8 Baker Match average.
The three-day tournament continues Saturday with five traditional team matches and concludes Sunday with a three-round baker playoff bracket.
