Women’s Bowling Goes 8-1 at James Brown Invitational, Earns Fifth Seed After Two Days

TOWSON, Md. - - The Wilmington University bowling team heads into Bracket play as the fifth ranked team at the James Brown Invitational with a total pinfall of 8,991 after two days, but with a tournament best 8-1 head-to-head record at the AMF Towson Lanes.

The Wildcats went 4-1 in Baker Play on Friday and then a perfect 4-0, including a bye, in Traditional matches on Saturday. They are fifth out of 15 teams after two days, and can play for as best as third overall in Bracket play on Sunday.

Additionally, the Wildcats were led by freshman CC Riojas, as she placed 11th overall on Saturday with a five-match score of 939. KC Miller and Rachel Hirst finished back-to-back in 14th and 15th place, bowling totals of 936 and 930, respectively. Bailey Peters finished 29th with an 876 total while Malia Stout rounded out the Wildcats with a 39th place finish, bowling an 840.

On Friday, the Wildcats went 4-1 in Baker matches, starting off with four straight victories. They defeated Mt. Aloysius, 920-851, and then Virginia State, 902-769. They also defeated Bloomfield, 904-835, and the Norfolk State, 857-808. They ended the day with a loss to Chestnut Hill, 970-887.

On Saturday, the Wildcats defeated Felician, 903-886, before going into their bye round. After the bye, they defeated Coppin State, 904-897, and then Morgan State, 920-810. Saturday ended with their best match of the day, defeating Howard, 927-887, to cap the 4-0 afternoon.

CC Riojas bowled matches of 202-199-151-181-206 for her 939, finishing in 11th with an average of 187.80.

KC Miller got better as the day went on, bowling matches of 144-152-204-222-214 for her 936 and 187.20 average. The 222 against Morgan State was the team's best of the afternoon.

Rachel Hirst finished right behind Miller in 15th place, bowling matches of 178-191-182-189-190 for her 930 (186.00 average).

Bailey Peters bowled matches of 191-160-212-164-149 for her 876 (175.20 average), finishing in 29th overall.

Malia Stout finished 39th overall with a 168 average, bowling matches of 188-165-155-164-168 for her 840 total.

Mount St. Mary's leads the tournament with a 10-match average of 191.7, while Sacred Heart is second overall with a 188.7 average. Duquesne's Olivia Farwell earned Tournament MVP honors on Saturday with a five match total of 1,117, good enough for a 223.40 average.

The Wildcats face off against No. 6 Bloomfield in the first match on Sunday, battling the Bears in a Baker Bracket style matchup. With three wins, the Wildcats would place third overall for the Tournament.
