A 10-0 First Half Run Carries Women’s Lacrosse to 18-5 Win at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team continued their strong play at the beginning of the season as they displayed another all-around performance, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan, 18-5, this Tuesday afternoon at Cebe Ross Field in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

The Wildcats' (3-1) hot start was the difference maker in today's match as they outscored the Bobcats 14-1 in the first half. The Wildcats scored four goals in the opening four minutes. The Wildcats were able to outshoot the Bobcats 30-15 and had a 15-7 advantage in draw controls. The Wildcats also controlled the ground with a 28-8 advantage in groundballs.

Amelie Gamache opened the scoring for the 'Cats with a free position shot just a little over a minute into the game. Gamache later added her third goal of the year and second of the game in the third period with a man-advantage goal assisted by Alea Javorowsky.

Lauren Gresham added her two assists on the day in goals in the first quarter. First, Gresham found Maddie Day for one of her three goals on the day, not even a minute after Gamache's goal as day scored at 13:13. Then, up 3-0, Gresham found Alea Javorowsky for one of her three goals on the day. Anastasia Giannoulis added a goal and one assist in the first quarter. Giannoulis assisted Ella Royer in the closing minutes, and Giannoulis scored a goal unassisted in the opening minutes. The Wildcats would take advantage of being a man-up again in the game's closing minute. Riley McQuaide found Ella Baynes for the seventh goal of the quarter.

The Wildcats controlled the second quarter, outscoring the Bobcats seven goals to zero. Michaella Cook joined the scoresheet as Cook scored twice in the second quarter. First, at the 6:10 mark, Riley McQuaide assisted. Then McQuaide beat the buzzer before the half, scoring with one second left from an assist by Gamache. Next, Ella Royer and Ella Baynes scored their second goal in the second quarter. Royer scored at the 9:28 mark, and Baynes with 1:22 left.

The Wildcats scored four times in the second half. Maddie Day and Amelie Gamache both scored in the third quarter. Gamache and the Wildcats again capitalized on a man advantage with 3:46 left to play in the third quarter. Alea Javorowsky earned a free position goal in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. Anastasia Giannoulis rounded out the scoring for the 'Cats at the 7:50 mark of the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal.

Eight different Wildcats found their way on the scoresheet. Alea Javorowsky and Maddie Day led the way in scoring with three goals each. Javorowsky and Amelie Gamache both led the team in assists with three. Katie Vindigni and Ashley Richmond both split time between the pipes. Vindigni made a team-high four saves.

The Wildcats will round out their stay in West Virginia on Thursday as they will face Alderson Broaddus at 4:00 PM.
