Wildcats Score 13 goals in First Quarter in 24-2 CACC Against Alliance

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's lacrosse team scored 13 goals in the first quarter in a 24-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Alliance on Friday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Prior to the game, the teams wore Morgan's Message warm-up shirts and met at midfield to help bring awareness to the mental health struggle among student-athletes. Morgan's Message: Taking a shot at Mental Health. To learn more, visit their website here: https://www.morgansmessage.org/.

The Wildcats (7-4, 3-1 CACC) won their third game in a row, scoring at least 22 goals in all three games. The Wildcats scored the first five goals of the game and then went on an 8-goal run to end the first quarter and lead 13-1. Alliance scored a man-advantage goal in the second quarter to make it 17-2 before the Wildcats tallied the final goal of the half to go into the break leading 18-2.

Wilmington didn't yield a goal in the second half, winning the third quarter, 4-0, and then scoring two more in the fourth quarter.

Jenna Banks and Madison Trzaska scored their first goals of the season on Friday, with Banks, a defender, making it her first career goal.

Amelie Gamache led the Wildcats with eight points, scoring four goals while adding four assists. She also contributed four draws and two ground balls in the win. Makenzie Stritzinger also scored a team high four goals, adding seven draws, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Ella Baynes recorded six points, scoring three goals while adding three assists and two caused turnovers. Maddie Day finished with three goals and two assists while Ella Royer chipped in with three goals, an assist, five draws, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Alea Javorowsky scored once and dished out a team-high four assists. Riley McQuaide scored two goals and added an assist while Taylor Culver and Anastasia Giannoulis rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

The Wildcats remain at home next week, as they welcome Holy Family to the Complex for another CACC contest. The Wildcats and Tigers square off on Wednesday, April 5 with a 4:00 p.m. opening draw.
