Baseball Holds Firm at No. 5 in Latest NCBWA East Region Poll

NEWARK, Del. - - After defeating Shippensburg, 13-12, in its first home game of the year at Wilson Field, the Wilmington University baseball team stays put at No. 5 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region poll.

The Wildcats received votes in the NCBWA East Region Preseason Poll, staying at the No. 5 spot by earning 55 points, one more point, than last week's poll. The Wildcats have moved up three spots since the Week 1 poll, which had the team ranked eighth.

The Wildcats edged out Shippensburg University last Tuesday, 13-12. Matt Warrington went 2-for-4 with three RBI while Nic Hertzfeld went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Nick Nocella finished 1-for-5 with two RBI as well. Quintin Ivy finished 2-for-5 on the day. JJ Killen homered to left field.

The Wildcats are back in action today, March 22. Their matchup is against Jefferson University at 3:00 p.m. at Wilson Field for their CACC Opener.

The Wildcats then welcome another CACC opponent in Caldwell to Wilson Field on Saturday, March 26 to play a doubleheader against the Cougars, with the first pitch being at 12:00 p.m. The Wildcats then wrap up their week on Sunday in Philadelphia where they will face off against Jefferson in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
