West Chester Takes Nonconference Tilt, 12-5, from Baseball

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - - West Chester scored in six different innings on its way to a 12-5 nonconference victory over the Wilmington University baseball team on Wednesday afternoon at Serpico Stadium.

The Wildcats (8-11) had 12 hits in the game but left eight runners on base. West Chester (17-6) scored two in the first, three in the second, two in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to lead 10-2.

The Golden Rams loaded the bases in the first, scoring on a single and a sacrifice fly. Back-to-back doubles produced two runs in the second and then the Golden Rams made it 5-0 as a throw to third on a stolen base went off the batter's bat and into left field.

Nick Nocella and Tristan Schoendienst started the fourth with singles and then Eddie Parry split the gap in left center for a two-run double. JJ Killen walked and the Wildcats had two more runners on without any outs in the inning. Tyler Pirrung sacrificed the runners up but then the Golden Rams got a strikeout and a grounder to third to end the inning without further damage.

West Chester tacked on two more runs in the fourth and then used a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-2 lead and never looked back.

Erik Grady and Nic Hertzfeld singled in the ninth to start a rally. Adrian Jimenez singled to left to score Matt Warrington and then Dom Grady picked up an RBI on a ground out to make it 12-4. Jack McDonald added an RBI single two batters later, scoring Dom Grady to complete the score at 12-5.

Anthony Giordano took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits and three walks through the first three innings. He also struck out five batters. Eddie Parry tossed a scoreless eighth inning, picking up a strikeout as well.

The Wildcats are right back to action on Thursday, making up its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Bridgeport at Wilson Field. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
