NEWARK, Del. - - Three Wilmington University baseball student-athletes have been named All-Region for their 2024 seasons as three organizations have released their postseason accolades.
The Wildcats' Tyler Pirrung was named a First Team utility player on the Division 2 Conference Commissioner Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Team while Dom Grady was named to the Second Team on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) All-East Region Team. Freshman standout Brandon Grygo was named Second Team All-East Region by all three organizations, including the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), D2CCA, and NCBWA.
The CACC Rookie of the Year, Brandon Grygo (New Castle, Del.) was the only Wildcat to be named on more than one All-Region team this season, being a unanimous Second Team outfielder. Grygo led the CACC with a .388 batting average while also finishing fourth with a .612 slugging percentage and ninth with a .458 on-base percentage. His four triples were third most in the CACC while his 13 doubles rank sixth most in the league. He also knocked in 24 runs from atop the lineup and scored 37 runs as well. Grygo hit three homers throughout the season, first against American International and then a three-run walk-off blast against Post. He also hit a leadoff homer at Jefferson on April 20.
The only First Team honoree this season, Tyler Pirrung (Newark, Del.) finished third in the CACC with a .365 batting average and third overall with a .473 on-base percentage. He was also 13th in the league with a .519 slugging percentage. Among his 38 hits this year, he collected nine doubles, two triples, and a homer, knocking in 24 runs while scoring 30 more himself. Pirrung got on base with 12 walks and 11 hit-by-pitches and then used 17 stolen bases to get into scoring position.
Dom Grady (Bensalem, Pa.) is a repeat All-Region selection, earning the postseason honor as a reliever last year as well. Grady led the CACC with seven saves this year, appearing in 19 games with a 2-4 record and a 3.72 ERA. In 19.1 innings, he struck out 24 batters, leading the way with an 11.17 strikeout per nine innings ratio. His seven saves rank fifth in the East Region this season.
The Wildcats went 24-21, advancing to the First Round of the CACC Tournament by finishing third in the South Division.
