
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the third time this season, Wilmington University men's basketball freshman Tre Hawkins has highlighted the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Report, being named the Rookie of the Week on Monday.
It is the second time he has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week, while also being named the CACC Player of the Week once this year. He was named the CACC Rookie of the Week on November 25 and the CACC Player of the Week on December 9.
Tre Hawkins (Waldorf, Md.) helped the Wildcats to a 1-1 record last week, including a last second victory Felician who was receiving votes in the latest D2CSC MBB East Region Poll. He averaged 38 minutes, scoring 45 points while grabbing 20 rebounds in the two games last week.
He set a new collegiate personal record in the week's first game at Georgian Court, scoring 30 points while securing 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He was 9-of-19 from the floor and 12-of-14 from the foul line in the game, adding two assists, and two blocked shots as well.
In the win against Felician, he scored 15 points while playing all 40 minutes, including hitting two free throws with 2.0 seconds left to capture the 77-76 victory. He grabbed seven rebounds in the win, adding two assists and a steal. Down two with 7.2 seconds left, Denim Perkins raced down the court and found Hawkins in the paint. Hawkins was fouled with 2.0 seconds left, calmly hitting both free throws earn the victory.
On the season, Hawkins is averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting at a 54.5 percent clip. He is also averaging 5.8 rebounds a game in his first collegiate season.
The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday night, as they travel to Jefferson for a CACC South Division battle. The men are scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. tip in the Gallagher Center.
