Denim Perkins Named CACC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - A third Wilmington University men's basketball freshman has earned his way onto the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Report as Denim Perkins has been named the Rookie of the Week on Monday.

It is the first time that Denim Perkins (Dover, Del.) has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week, joining teammates Tre Hawkins and Jaylin Horsey who have also earned the distinction throughout the season.

On Saturday, Denim Perkins started the game by hitting his first two three-pointers and ended with him hitting his fifth of the game for a season high 26 points. He helped the Wildcats defeat Chestnut Hill, 92-76, and bring the Wildcats to within one win of reaching the CACC Tournament for the seventh straight year.

Perkins shot 10-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-7 from deep, to score 26 points in the win. He also had seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

For the season, he leads the CACC in dishing out 4.7 assists per game while adding 9.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest as well.

Georgian Court's Cam Edmonds was named the CACC Player of the Week while Chestnut Hill's Neal Hill was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week as well on Monday.

Perkins and the Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday when they head to Caldwell for one final road game of the regular season. The opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
