Three Wildcats Earn Second Team All-CACC Men’s Soccer Selections

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three Wilmington University men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Second Team, as voted on by the league's 13 head coaches.

The Wildcats (9-4-5, 7-2-3 CACC) placed one student-athlete in each third of the field on the All-CACC Second Team, including forward Marcus Hedemann, midfielder Tajhay Williams, and defender Richard Thompson.

Marcus Hedemann (Hillerod, Denmark) led the Wildcats with 15 points on the year, tying for fifth in the CACC with seven goals. Six of his seven goals have come in CACC play, ranking fourth most in the conference. He is third in the CACC with 49 shots and 10th overall with 15 points. He scored game-winning goals against nationally 6th ranked Millersville and Post, scoring twice against the Eagles in 2-0 Homecoming victory. He also scored goals against Caldwell, Chestnut Hill, Felician, and Holy Family.

Tajhay Williams (Yallahs, Jamaica) is tied for second on the team with 14 points, scoring six goals while adding two assists. All 14 points have come against CACC opponents, ranking sixth most in the league. His six goals in CACC play is fourth most amongst league competition. His lone game-winning goal came in a 5-2 win over Dominican on September 17. He also scored against Caldwell, Chestnut Hill, Jefferson, Bridgeport, and Alliance with assists coming against Felician and Holy Family.

Richard Thompson (Montego Bay, Jamaica) is a repeat All-CACC selection, earning the 2021 CACC Rookie of the Year and a First Team nod last season. He started the first 14 games at right back before an injury plagues the end of his season. He scored a goal in the 3-1 victory over Georgian Court and assisted in three straight games against Caldwell, Chestnut Hill, and Dominican to complete his five points as a defender on the year. He has been a key part five of the team's six shutouts this season as well.

Bridgeport had the CACC Player of the Year in Lucas Sousa, the Rookie of the Year in Maximilian Kissel, and the Goalkeeper of the Year in Clement Anet. CACC Regular Season Champion Post has the Defensive Player of the Year in Antoine Trifonov, and Holy Family's Georg Montag was voted as the CACC Coach of the Year by the league's sports information directors.

The Wildcats finished fourth in the CACC standings this year and host fifth seeded Jefferson in the CACC Tournament First Round on Tuesday, November 1 at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening whistle is set for 1:00 p.m.
