Offense Breaks Loose in 6-0 Victory over Bloomfield to Cap Homecoming

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University men's soccer team got a much needed result on Saturday, breaking loose in a 6-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex to put a cap on the 2023 Homecoming festivities.

After just scoring two goals during a four-game losing streak, the Wildcats brook loose with a season high six goals on Saturday, getting goals from four different people. Jeremie Briquet and Leandro Louro da Silva scored two goals each for the Wildcats.

Once the lid was lifted the scoring came quick in the first half, as the Wildcats scored three goals in a matter of nine minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the break. The scoring starting in the 28th minute after Malthe Hannesbo took a high kick to the head inside the box. Jeremie Briquet converted the team's first penalty kick of the season to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Less than a minute later, Leandro Louro da Silva scored his first goal of the season as the Wildcats turned a turnover off the goalkeeper's volley into a goal. Tyrese Small headed the liner back into the offensive zone. A mishit from the Bears' defense put the ball into no-man's-land and that allowed Leandro Louro da Silva to charge onto it in the box and score his first goal as a Wildcat.

Briquet added his second goal of the game in the 37th minute for his team leading fourth of the year. Jeremie Saint-Marc played Briquet into the box on the right side, and his one-time touch to the far post hit the side netting and the Wildcats had a 3-0 lead going into the break.

A corner in the 51st minute led to Sebastian Agerschou scoring his first goal as a Wildcat. With the bulk of the Wildcats inside the 18-yard box, Max Norden played a ball outside the box to Diego Ramirez. Ramirez played it into the bunched up box and found Agerschou who turned around and beat the goalkeeper from in close for the 4-0 lead.

Yarek Carnegie scored his first collegiate career goal in the 68th minute, making it 5-0 in favor of the Wildcats. He received a long ball from Adrian Lekaj before playing it out to the left side to Sora Noda. Noda brought the ball back inside and took a long range shot that was saved. Yarek Carnegie followed the shot and was there to knock home the rebound.

Leandro Louro da Silva capped the scoring with his second of the day, putting home a shot following a tic-tac-toe passing display from Heejun An and Yohan Kim. An played the ball out to the left side to Kim. Kim one-touched da Silva in the box who took a one-timer to the near post to make it 6-0 in the 77th minute.

The Wildcats outshot the Bears, 42-3, including 16-2 in shots on goal. Jomar Vizcaino was impressive in goal for the Bears, making 10 saves. Charlie Phillips picked up his first career win in goal for the Wildcats, making two saves for the shutout.

The Wildcats will look to take the momentum into their next game, as they host Holy Family on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening whistle is set for 3:30 p.m.
