GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University softball team is enjoying a season where they captured their first-ever NCAA Division II Sub Regional Championship. The Wildcats earned their way to the East Super Region by going 3-0 in the East Region #2 Bracket. The Wildcats (37-18) will travel to Garden City, New York to play a best-of-three series against No. 1 seeded Adelphi University (45-12).

How They Got Here:
The Wildcats have picked the perfect time to heat up as they have won seven out of their last eight playoff games. The Wildcats earned a spot in the East Region as the No. 3 seed after a 34-18 record after the conclusion of the 2022 CACC Championships. Due to inclement weather, the Wildcats were not able to finish the CACC Championships and were runner-ups to Georgian Court University.
The Wildcats were able to seek revenge in the East Region #2 Bracket hosted by Georgian Court University by sweeping them in the tournament, 2-1 and 4-1. They also beat Franklin Pierce in the opening round of the tournament, 3-2.
Super Regional Matchup vs. Adelphi:
The Wildcats saw the Panthers in their 2022 home opener, where the two teams split a doubleheader. In the first game, The Panthers came back from a 5-2 deficit with a three-run fifth and then tied the game once again, 6-6, in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Adelphi completed the comeback with a four-run ninth inning, taking the opener, 10-6. The Wildcats won the nightcap 7-5, with Emma Zimmerman going 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Haley Downin going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
