
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - - Three Wildcats won their events as the Wilmington University men's and women's track and field teams each placed fourth overall at the Purple & Gold Open hosted by West Chester University on Friday and Saturday.
The men place fourth out of 21 teams with 73 points while the women placed fourth overall out of 21 teams with 45 points. West Chester won each side as the men earned 129 points and the women earned 216 points.
Dan Wyshinski, Donte Dockery, and Sytieia Brown all won their respective events, with each victory bringing in 10 points for the Wildcats. Dan Wyshinski won the 1500-meter event with a time of 4:07.39, beating the field by over two seconds. Donte Dockery finished atop the long jump list with a day's best 6.75 meters, 0.10 meters better than the field. Sytieia Brown won the discus event for the women, finishing with a new personal record of 37.92 meters, 0.53 meters better than the field.
Sytieia Brown scored 23 points in three events for the Wildcats. On top of the first place finish in the discus, she finished second overall in the women's hammer with a distance of 41.09 meters for eight points, and fourth overall in the shot put with a distance of 11.55 meters for five more points.
Deja Curry and Eliza Eliza Hildreth brought in points for the Wildcats in the 400-meter event, as Curry finished second overall with a time of 1:02.54 for eight points and Hildreth finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:04.31 for four points. Cadance Bell finished just outside the points with a ninth place finish with a time of 1:04.85 in her debut.
Tiffany Banning finished fifth in the 1500-meter event with a time of 5:02.33 for four points while Angelina Davis added three points in the triple jump with a distance of 9.50 meters for sixth place. Jada Obegi added to the field points with a sixth place finish in the shot put, earning three points with a distance of 11.49 meters.
On the men's side, Sam Distler scored in all three throws with personal records, finishing third in the shot put with a distance of 14.01 meters for six points, fifth in the hammer with a distance of 37.11 meters for five points, and seventh in the discus with a distance of 34.19 meters for two points. Christian Dollard scored in two of the throws, finishing third in the discus with a distance of 40.53 meters for six points and third int eh hammer with a distance of 37.29 meters for eight points.
TJ Taiwo and Brandley Spencer finished second overall in the two hurdle events, as Taiwo ran the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.50 seconds. He was the first collegiate finisher in the event however, earning 10 points. Spence ran the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 59.18 seconds for eight points.
Samir Barbers finished fourth in the triple jumper, landing at 12.03 meters for five points. Tyler Levons placed seventh overall in the 200-meter event, running in a time of 23.22 seconds for two points.
The Wildcats are back in action next weekend as they compete in the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University.
