Grant Secures Double-Double But Wilmington Women’s Basketball Falls Short, 55-50, against Bowie State

NEWARK, Del. - - Nyree Grant's double-double was not enough for the Wilmington University women's basketball team as a fourth quarter comeback fell just short, 55-50, against Bowie State on Wednesday night at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Wildcats (2-5) held an 18-13 advantage after one quarter of play, but found themselves down 33-26 at the halftime break to the Bulldogs (5-2). Trailing by as many as 12 points in the second half, the Wildcats stormed back in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to as close as 52-50 late in the game.

LaShyra Williams and Grant led the Wildcats with 12 points each while Grant added a team high 10 boards for her first double-double as a Wildcat. Macy Robinson chipped in with 11 points, five boards, and three assists.

The Wildcats begin their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference slate on Saturday when they host perennial favorite Philadelphia at the WU Athletics Complex at 1:00 p.m.
