Bears Defeat Wilmington Women’s Basketball, 62-36, in CACC Cross Divisional Contest

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - - The Bloomfield Bears were able to turn extra possessions into extra points, defeating the Wilmington University women's basketball team, 62-36, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon inside The Gym.

The Wildcats (1-11, 1-6 CACC) committed 24 turnovers on Saturday, leading to 25 points for the Bears (3-14, 1-8 CACC). The Bears also dominated the paint on Saturday, outscoring the Wildcats, 42-12, in the lane.

The Wildcats game back in the first quarter to lead after the first 10 minutes. Trailing 10-4 midway through the quarter, Jade Roberts hit a free throw, Sabreen Muslim laid one in and then hit back-to-back jumpers to score the final seven points of the quarter and take an 11-10 lead.

But it was all Bears from there, as they scored 13 of the first 15 points in the second quarter to take a 23-13 lead. The Wildcats didn't score their first bucket of the quarter until 2:23 left before the half. In all, the Bears won the second quarter, 21-6, to take a 31-17 lead into the locker room.

The Bears scored the first six points of the third quarter and took a 41-19 lead with starting the quarter of a 10-2 run. The Bears won the third quarter 18-10, and went on to win the fourth quarter, 13-9, as well, to take the CACC contest, 62-36.

Sabreen Muslim led the Wildcats with 14 points, shooting 6-of-13 from the floor. She also grabbing four rebounds while coming up with two steals and a block. Jade Roberts scored seven points while adding three rebounds and two assists. Emily Ansah led the Wildcats with six rebounds.

The Wildcats shot 31.8 percent from the floor in the game while the Bears hit on 41.5 percent of their shots.

The Wildcats' makeup game at Georgian Court scheduled for Monday has been postpone, so the Wildcats will return to the floor on Wednesday when they host Jefferson at the WU Athletics Complex in a CACC South Division contest. The opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m. and the game will have live stats and a free live broadcast while a NO SPECTATOR POLICY is still in effect.
