Dominican Leads Wire-to-Wire in 79-53 CACC Victory over Women’s Basketball

NEWARK, Del. - - Eight three-pointers sank the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Saturday, as Dominican took the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup, 79-53, at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Chargers (13-11, 8-6 CACC) shot 8-for-22 from beyond the three-point arc while the Wildcats (1-17, 1-12 CACC) went 0-for-7 from deep. The difference from behind the three-point arc made up the difference in the ball game.

Dominican shot 49.2 percent from the floor for the game overall, hitting on 32-of-65. The Wildcats went 25-for-65 from the floor, but was hindered by 17 turnovers. The Chargers turned those 17 turnovers into 15 points at the other end while the Wildcats could only produce two points from the Chargers' nine mistakes.

The Chargers took as large as a nine-point lead in the first quarter before the Wildcats went on a 6-2 run to close the gap to 14-9. Emily Ansah was able to cut it as close as 16-13 with a layup, but the Chargers closed the quarter on a 6-2 run to lead 22-15.

The visitors took their first double-digit lead with 8:26 to play in the second quarter, leading 29-19. Amaja Mack completed a 6-0 run with a jumper to cut the deficit to seven points, but that would be the last points of the half for the Wildcats, as the Chargers finished the quarter on an 8-0 to lead 42-27 at the halftime break.

The Chargers came out of the break and continued to extend its lead over the Wildcats. The Chargers outscored the Wildcats, 21-12, in the quarter to lead 63-39 going into the fourth and final quarter.

Dominican's lead ballooned to as large as 28 points in the fourth quarter before settling on the final score, 79-53.

Emily Ansah led the Wildcats with 16 points, adding nine rebounds and a block. Sabreen Muslim came off the bench to secure a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jade Roberts scored nine points but added five assists and three rebounds. Daja Claiborne had a block to go with six points, four assists, and three rebounds.

The Wildcats have one final home game on the season and it comes on Tuesday night against Georgian Court. The Wildcats will honor senior Sabreen Muslim prior to the game, which is expected to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
