NEW CASTLE, Del. - - In hosting its first tournament, the Wilmington University women's bowling team went 3-2 in Baker Matches and sit in seventh place in total pinfall at the Wildcat DII-DIII Invitational at Bowlerama on Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats knocked down 4,083 pins in five matches, averaging 163.3 pins per match to finish seventh of 12 teams. The Wildcats started the day with wins over Belmont Abbey and New Jersey City before falling to Nationally No. 15 Adelphi. The Wildcats battled back to defeat Medaille before falling to Kutztown in the nightcap.
In their first match of the day, the Wildcats defeated Belmont Abbey, 791-702, in three of the five baker matches with a game high 192 in the fourth match. In their win against New Jersey City, 805-729, the Wildcats won four of the five matches with a high of 178 in the fourth match.
The Wildcats produced their best individual match against nationally ranked No. 15 Adelphi, bowling a 222 in the second match. That was the only match the team won against the Panthers, falling 893-826 in the match.
The Wildcats bounced back with their best Baker Match of the afternoon, defeating Medaille, 849-821, in their fourth match. They won three of the five matches against the Mavs, including their second best single match score of 209 in the second game.
In the final match of the day, the Wildcats hung tough with Kutztown, ranked eighth in the National Tenpin Coaches Association DII/III National Poll, but fell 867-812. They win the second game, 180-151, and produced their highest game of the match in the third, but fell 184-182.
Day two of the Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational continues on Saturday with each team competing in five traditional matches. Matches are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Bowlerama.
