Ella Royer Named CACC Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Following her dazzling debut for the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team, freshman Ella Royer has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The Wildcats opened their 2023 campaign with a 17-0 shutout victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday. After only scoring two goals in the first quarter, the Wildcats expanded the lead out to 11-0 halftime score with a 9-0 second quarter.

Making her collegiate debut, Ella Royer (Alberta, Canada) led the Wildcats with five goals while adding an assist for six points. She also led the team with 11 ground balls and six draws in the game.

She only needed eight shots to score her five goals, putting seven of her shots on frame. She tied Amelie Gamache with the team lead in six points. Gamache used one goal and five assists to score her six points.

Georgian Court's Alyssa Wahl was named the CACC Player of the Week while her teammate Alexis Hahn was named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week. Felician's Amanda Ramirez earned the CACC Defensive Player of the Week to wrap up the selections.

Randy Rickards was named to the Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll after scoring 22 points and grabbing 9.0 rebounds per game in two contests last week.

Royer and the Wildcats will be back in action this Friday afternoon as they start their trek through the Appalachian Mountains with a game at Shepherd.
