Three Wildcats Earn Spots on 2023 CACC Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Teams

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three Wilmington University women's lacrosse standouts earned a spot on the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Conference Teams, announced by the league office earlier this week.

The Wildcats were highlighted by First Team All-CACC selection Ella Royer (Sherwood Park, Alberta), while Amelie Gamache (Stewartstown, Pa.) and Makenzie Stritzinger (Hummelstown, Pa.) were voted Second Team All-CACC by the league's 11 head coaches.

The freshman from Canada has been nothing short of spectacular this season for the Wildcats, leading the team with 90 points. She ranks fourth in the CACC with 67 goals, ninth in the CACC with 23 assists, and sixth in the league with her 90 points. She also leads the CACC with 52 ground balls, is ninth in the league with 22 caused turnovers, and 11th overall with 70 draw controls on the year. She had a season high eight points in a win over Holy Family, scoring for goals while adding a season high four assists. She's scored a season's best five goals in six different games, including three straight going into the CACC Tournament Semifinals.

Amelie Gamache is another do-it-all player for the Wildcats, ranking fourth in the CACC with 46 assists and eighth overall with 80 points. She also ranks fourth in the league with 43 ground balls and has been the point person on draws for the Wildcats, scooping up 66 of them herself which ranks 13th in the CACC. She is also 11th overall in the CACC with 21 caused turnovers. She had a season high 10 points at Post, scoring three goals while adding seven assists. She also had eight points in two other games, scoring four goals and adding four assists against each Chestnut Hill and Alliance. Gamache had a season's high 12 draws at West Virginia Wesleyan.

Makenzie Stritzinger is another do-it-all midfielder for the Wildcats, getting on the end of the majority of Amelie Gamache's draw. Stritzinger is third in the CACC with 113 draws this season while also accumulating 26 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers, 28 goals and seven assists for 35 points. She posted a season's best five points at Felician, scoring three goals while adding two assists. She also had four points in two different games, scoring four goals against Alliance and going three goals and an assist at Post. She's collected double digit draws in three games this year, including a season's best 13 in the CACC First Round win over Bridgeport.

Dominican ruled the Major Awards this season, as the Chargers' Caitlin Costello was named the CACC Player of the Year, Madelyn Grella was named the CACC Rookie of the Year, and Erin Carr was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Year. The Chargers' coach Rob Grella was also named the CACC Coach of the Year in a vote by the league's sports information directors.

The No. 3 seed Wildcats will face No. 2 Jefferson in the CACC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday hosted by Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. The Wildcats and Rams will be the second semifinal game with an expected start time of 2:30 p.m. at LaMoy Field.
