Ella Royer Named IWLCA Division II National Offensive Player of the Week

NEWARK, Del. - - Wilmington University women's lacrosse standout Ella Royer has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 week.

It is the first time a Wildcats has been named an IWLCA National Player of the Week and believed to be the first from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference as well.

Ella Royer (Sherwood Park, Alberta/Vima Ridge Academy) was named the CACC Player of the Week for the third time this season after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 week. She scored 16 goals and four assists for 20 points, adding 20 draws, seven ground balls, and four caused turnovers. She scored nine goals, including the program record breaking mark, in a win over Frostburg State. Trailing 17-15 late in the game, Royer scored the final three goals of the game, including the game-winner with 17 seconds left for the 18-17 win. She also had a season-high 11 draws in the win. In the team's CACC opener, Royer scored seven goals and added four assists for 11 points in a 25-6 win over Felician. She added nine draws, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Her third goal against Felician was the 195th of her career, breaking the all-time program record. She now has 208 career goals and is closing in on the all-time career points record, tallying 265 so far in her career.

Tampa's Lexi Waters was named the IWLCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week after leading the No. 1 Spartans to wins over No. 23 Mercy and No. 8 Pace last week.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Dominican for a 4:00 p.m. opening draw.
