FLUSHING, N.Y. - - Facing another top team in the East Region, the Wilmington University women's tennis team fell on the road to Queens (N.Y.), 7-0, at the Queens College Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

Of the Wildcats' six matches this season, four of them have been against teams that were ranked in the top five in the final ITA Tennis Regional Polls at the end of last season. A New ITA Tennis poll for the 2018-19 season does not come out until November.

Begona Gomar and Andrea Rilbalta put up good fights in their singles matches, but the Knights took all nine matches en route to the 7-0 shutout.

Playing against the fifth ranked player in the East, Gomar took the first set against Rehan Rashad, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 1 singles, but the Knight came back to force a third set tiebreaker with a second set victory, 6-2. The two battled in the tiebreaker, but it eventually was Rashad that came out on top, 14-12.

Ribalta also went into a third set tiebreaker at No. 5 singles, splitting the first two sets 6-4 and 7-6 (7-2). The third set tiebreaker went the way of the Knights once again, as Ruth Artaza Martin won the match with a 10-2 tiebreaker score.

The Wildcats have a chance to get back to their winning ways on Saturday, as they return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at home. They will square off against USciences at the Delcastle Tennis Center, with an expected first service of 1:00 p.m.
