WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season, downing Millersville, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon inside the Delcastle Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (10-5) came out and took all three doubles matches to earn the point, and continue to take it to the Marauders (3-13), winning all six singles matches for the 7-0 win. The Wildcats didn't lose a set all match.
Tess Paya and Sabrina Blasi-Smtih locked up the doubles' point with a 6-4 victory after number three doubles, after Begona Gomar and Anushka Sathe first won at number two doubles, 6-3.
Blasi-Smith continued her good day with a 6-1 and 6-0 win at number six singles while Andrea Ribalta also won with a blank set, 6-0 and 6-1, at number five. Tess Paya continued the winning at number four singles, picking up a 6-1 and 6-1 victory. Laura Gil won at number three singles, 6-3 and 6-2, while Anushka Sathe put the Wildcats up 6-0 with a 6-3 and 6-2 win at number two singles. Begona Gomar secured the clean slate with a 7-6 (9-7) and 6-2 win at number one singles.
The Wildcats take off to Stow, Ohio, for two matches this weekend against a pair of team from Michigan. They will square off against Wayne State and Grand Valley State at the Latuchie Tennis Center.
