Women’s Teams Pick Up Four CACC Player of the Week Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Four more Wilmington University student-athletes have been named a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, after another solid week of action for the Wildcats last week.

For the second time this season, Maria Leguizamon has been named the CACC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Eliza Schneider has been named the CACC Volleyball Rookie of the Week. Women's cross country swept the CACC Awards as Tiffany Banning was named the CACC Women's Runner of the Week while Kendall Cramer was named the CACC Women's Rookie of the Week.

Maria Leguizamon (Bogota, Colombia) helped lead the Wildcats to a 2-0 mark last week, scoring a game-winner and leading the defensive effort in a shutout on Homecoming. The centerback headed home a corner with 1:01 to play to defeat regionally ranked Mercy, 2-1, and then anchored the defense in a 3-0 victory over Felician. It is back-to-back week's she has been named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Also for the second week in a row, volleyball's Eliza Schneider (Hartly, Del.) has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a 2-1 record. In 12 sets, Schneider put down 36 kills (3.00 per set) while adding 18 digs (1.50 per set) and 5 blocks (0.42 per set). She had a week's best 14 kills against Georgian Court and then 12 kills and 7 digs against Bloomsburg. She finished the week by hitting .269 with 10 kills and eight digs in a win over Felician on Homecoming.

Tiffany Banning (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) and Kendall Cramer (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) swept the CACC Women's Cross Country Weekly Awards while competing at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational in Rochester, N.Y. Tiffany Banning set a personal record in the 5K, breaking the 20-minute mark for the first time. She finished 48th overall with a time of 19:39.8 to pace the Wildcats. Making her collegiate debut, Kendall Cramer finished 210th overall with a 5K time of 23:25.4.

Five additional Wildcats had noticeable weeks as well, earning a spot on their sport's Honor Roll. Women's soccer's Jordan Siok scored twice and added an assist while men's soccer's Michiharu Takanashi scored once and dished out an assist. Cross country's Dan Wyshinski paced the men at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, finishing 36th while Trent Taylor placed 48th overall. Women's cross county's Sammy Banning also made the Honor Roll after being the second Wildcat to finish in 110th overall. Liza Sylka won in both singles and doubles in women's tennis' victory over Jefferson to earn a spot as well.
