Bowling Closes Out the James Brown Invitational in Sixth Place

TOWSON, Md. - - The Wilmington University bowling team finished the weekend at the James Brown Invitational 9-3, but dropped their final two matches Sunday to finish in sixth overall on Sunday at the AMF Towson Lanes.

Thirteenth ranked Mount St. Mary's defeated Kutztown in the championship round, 4-1, while No. 10 Duquesne placed third followed by No. 19 Sacred Heart in fourth, and Howard in fifth.

The day started with a sweep of ECC foe Bloomfield, 4-0, moving on to square off against 10th ranked Duquesne. The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, winning games by 197-180 and 199-188. But Duquesne bounced back, taking the next four games to take the match, 4-2.

Now playing for fifth place, the Wildcats faced Howard and fell behind the Bison, 2-0. They answered with their best game of the match, winning game three, 210-199. But that would be all the Wildcats could get, as Howard went on to win, 4-2, and finish sixth overall.

The Wildcats went 4-1 in Baker matches on Friday and 4-0 with a bye in Traditional matches on Saturday, including defeating Coppin State, 904-897, on Rachel Hirst's tenth frame double.

The Wildcats have the upcoming weekend off, but return to action on Friday, February 28 in the first day of the Hawk Flight Invite hosted by Monmouth University in Hamilton, New Jersey.
