SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. - Despite a late game comeback, a cold start to the second half for the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team made way for Shepherd University to take a 15-13 win Tuesday afternoon at Ram Stadium in a nonconference matchup.

The Rams (2-0) would score five straight goals to start the second half, forcing the Wildcats (1-2) to fight their way back, but it wouldn't be enough as Shepherd held on to a two-goal victory.

It was a close first half throughout all 30 minutes, as both teams got shots off within the first two minutes of play, until a Wildcat turnover led to the first goal of the game for the Rams with 23:33 to go. Two minutes later, Shepherd found the back of the net again to go up 2-0 on Wilmington, before the next possession led to a Rams turnover that paved the way for a shot from Brooke Siebert from Delaney Steele to get the Wildcats on the board.

Sophomore Maddie Day would get into the action with 18:57 to play to tie the game up at 2-2, but Shepherd would answer right back to go up two goals, making WilmU fight back early. The Wildcats would stick around, trailing by just two goals, until tying the game up at seven apiece with 1:44 to go until halftime by a combo from Siebert and Steele. But the Rams would net one final goal before the half to retake the lead, 8-7.

Shepherd would take their momentum into the second half, netting five straight goals, while holding Wilmington to their first goal of the half with 14:26 to play in the game, as Brooke Siebert found Maris Allen to make it a 13-8 game.

With 9:57 to play in regulation, Delaney Steele would spark some momentum for the Wildcats, starting a three-goal run that included another goal and assist from the redshirt junior, and another assist to Brooke Siebert, as WilmU now trailed 14-11 with 5:09 to play. Shepherd would score their final goal of the game with 4:16 to play, making it 15-11, before the Wildcats would score two more times, from Maddie Day and Siebert, but it wouldn't be enough as the Rams held on.

Brooke Siebert led the team with five goals and one assist for six points, to go along with five draw controls and five ground balls. Delaney Steele finished with two goals and six assists for eight points. Lashay Ross, Taylor Lambeth, and Maris Allen each recorded one goal. Allen recorded five draw controls, as Lashay Ross had three, while Mariah Spencer had three caused turnovers. Tori Grubowski made 12 saves in the net.

WilmU would record 20 shots in the second half, but the Rams' goalie would make 10 saves in the net.

Wilmington will be back home at the Complex this Friday to take on Bloomsburg. Opening draw is set for 3:00 p.m.
